Diet
-Spotted Hyena’s are scavengers meaning when a lion or a cheetah kills an animal the hyena will eat with them or wait for them to finish eating, then go and eat the remaining parts that the other animal left behind. Spotted hyena’s will raid
fruit stores, eat crops, livestock and sometimes eat small children in near by villages.
An Interesting Fact!
-The Maasai people of Kenya and Tanzania actually leave their dead to be consumed by hyenas!
Appearance
-As the name goes, spotted hyena’s have black spots all over there body except a few on there stomach. They have no spots on their face only a black muzzle. Females tend to be bigger than males. They usually are 2’ 2- 2’5 feet tall and weigh at 120-160 pounds.
Clan
-Females tend to lead the clan, because of their size difference. Females are more aggressive than males, due to a supply of testosterone in their bodies. There will be 2 lead females and a clan can range anywhere between 7-20 hyena’s.
Reproduction
-Females can go into heat every few months. When pregnant, a female hyena can carry 2-5 pups each litter. When pups are born, they develop spots as they get older. Pups have to be kept away from their father because the father can eat his own pups.
